How do Ability checks work?

Whenever Loremaster asks you to roll for an action, you’ll see a difficulty threshold and two buttons: Take Test or Refuse Test.

  • You must roll a number equal to or higher than the threshold to succeed.
  • A random roll between 1 and 100 determines the outcome, with modifiers based on your Ability level (Unskilled, Trained, Skilled, etc.).
  • Results are not binary: there are different levels of success and failure (e.g., No and…, No, Yes, Yes and…).
  • Loremaster narrates the consequences in detail, weaving them naturally into the story.
  • If you succeed, you move forward with advantages; if you fail, Loremaster adapts with new challenges or setbacks.

You can sometimes request a reroll, but it raises your Tension.
